Apostleship of the Sea

The Apostleship of the Sea (AOS) in England and Wales is part of an international network of AOS agencies working in 89 countries to support the people of the sea. AOS is an agency of the Catholic Church whose outreach involves spiritual and pastoral, practical and welfare, education and campaigning work in support of all seafarers, regardless of their nationality, colour or creed.

AOS supports seafarers through a network of chaplains and ship visitors; both lay and ordained, paid and volunteer, who:-

  • pro-actively visit seafarers on their ships offering the hand of friendship

  • run ecumenical drop-in centres in ports where seafarers can relax and contact their families by phone or e-mailNavy image

  • accompany seafarers on their voyages as seagoing chaplains
