'Being loved and being kept safe go to the very core of the Church's ministry to children and vulnerable adults.'
(Safeguarding with Confidence - The Cumberlege Commission Report 2007)
The Lancaster Diocesan Safeguarding Office was developed in response to the need to recognise this guiding principle in all that we do with children, young and vulnerable adults in the name of the Catholic Church.
The primary aim of the Diocesan Safeguarding (formerly the Child Protection) Commission and Office is to ensure that our worshipping communities are safe places where children, young people, vulnerable adults and those who work with them have a positive experience of Church in which they feel loved, accepted and safe.
The Commission manages and promotes policy and procedures relating to the safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults within the Diocese.
The Commission works to ensure that the Diocese functions in accord with relevant national legislation and guidelines; to enact the policies of the Bishops' Conference expressed in Lord Nolan's Report and as formulated by the Catholic Safeguarding Advisory Service (CSAS).
