The Custody of the Holy Land (The Franciscans)
Founded by St. Francis in 1209, the Franciscan Order was commissioned by the Church in the 13th century to protect the Holy Places in the Holy Land in the name of all of Christianity.
The Friends of the Holy Land
Friends of the Holy Land was established in 2009 to support the Christians in the Holy Land. We work in close cooperation with the Christian churches in the region and in the UK. Our work is entirely non-political and is carried out with the backing and blessing of Anglican and Catholic Bishops in England and Wales.
The Latin Patriachate of Jerusalem
The Patriarchate has jurisdiction for all Latin Church Catholics in Israel, the Palestinian Territories, Jordanm and Cyprus. In Jerusalem, the Catholic community is the largest Christian community, with some 4,500 people out of an estimated Christian population of about 11,000. Since June 2008, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem has been Fouad Twal.
Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre – Grand Magisterium
This is a Roman Catholic order of knighthood under the protection of the pope that have a specal care for the Holy Land. It traces its roots to Duke Godfrey of Bouillon, principal leader of the First Crusade.
Franciscan Media Center
The Franciscan Multimedia Center is the multimedia and television centre of the Custody of the Holy Land, established in January 2008 with the aim of showing the beauty and wealth of the Holy Land through the production of a weekly news broadcast, meditations and reportages from the Holy Land.
Since 2006, Laila Tours has provided pilgrimages and tours to the Holy Land, Jordan and Egypt to the world’s faithful. In 2007 Laila Tours organised a pilgrimage for Bishop Patrick O’Donoghue and a small group of Lancaster priests and also in April 2013 they organised the Year of Faith Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
